Historical Moments, Big and Little

Students at New Hope participating this morning in a reading and writing activity.

First graders at New Hope School participated this morning in a reading and writing activity.

Tamalyn Gutierrez, Country Director, just passed along this photo and correspondence with Leddy, a teacher at New Hope School.  A great window into the day’s activities (via my rough translation).

Leddy:

Good morning, Tamalyn! I’m sending you a photo of first grade.  It is of a reading and writing activity.  The students are learning a new letter, and with that, new words.  They are copying them into their notebooks, highlighting them with crayon, and then repeating them verbally.

Tamalyn:

Sometimes what happens is “historical,” like a first house.  Sometimes it is something so basic, like a team member listening to someone in their moment of need, or an adult sitting with a child to read a book, or a teacher having patience with teaching the most basic skills.  This also makes history.
