Teachers from New Hope School have arrived in Chicago for a once-in-a-lifetime professional development opportunity. They are participating in the second stage of a teacher exchange with Hubbard Woods School in Winnetka, IL.

During the first stage of the exchange earlier this year, teachers from Hubbard Woods traveled to New Hope School, outside of Guatemala City. Now it’s the New Hope teacher’s turn.

So far, the New Hope teachers have joined the teachers for their Wednesday morning assembly and breakfast, greeted all of the students as they arrived at school, attended a school assembly, and led activities making kites, worry dolls, and baskets with students, Guatemalan traditions they had brought from home. Jose Luis, head of the math program, attended a daylong math workshop, all in English.

The teachers have many activities planned for the rest of the week, and then they will head to the St. Paul office for a brief visit in time for the Holiday Open House next Tuesday, December 8 from 11am-6pm. If you are in the Twin Cities area, consider stopping by Tuesday to meet them.

Check back later for more updates about their trip. If you speak Spanish, you can check out the teacher’s blog here.
