17 students will soon see the chalkboard a whole lot better

San Rafael Eye Exams 021

Dr. Brad Jacoby conducts an eye exam with a young San Rafael student.

Earlier this month the Jacoby family traveled to Guatemala, where Dr. Brad Jacoby and his wife Anne Jacoby, an ophthalmology technician, conducted eye exams in San Rafael. The pair completed 327 exams, most with students at the school, finding 17 children that needed glasses and/or surgery. Rocio Gonzalez, San Rafael satellite coordinator, said they also discovered a girl who was blind in one eye. Three teachers were also screened and determined to need glasses.

Dr. Jacoby took this information home and plans to send the corrective lenses down. El Faro, our partner medical clinic in San Rafael, already took three of the patients for surgery at Obras Sociales.

The Jacoby family has been long-time supporters of Common Hope in multiple ways–this isn’t the first time they have traveled to Guatemala to offer their ophthalmology skills, and they sponsor an incredible 10 children in San Rafael. Thanks to Brad and Anne for your ongoing support!
