Preparing for a transition

This week and next about 75 sixth graders from the Antigua area will be attending an orientation put on by Common Hope staff. The orientation is designed to prepare the students for the transition from primary school to junior high. This transition (from sixth to seventh grade) is a critical drop-out juncture for kids in Guatemala, and staff has developed the orientation initiative to help ease the adjustment process. The students are divided into groups of 10, and they are attending classes on computing, English, Spanish language, reading, math, art, and the importance of values.
