New playground in Antigua

Kids enjoying the new playground at Common Hope's Antigua site.

Kids waited anxiously behind yellow tape as Common Hope renovated the playground at the Family Development Center with new equipment, thanks to donations from La Semana Camp and JUMBO Playground Equipment. Finally, after two days of painting and equipment installation, kids scrambled to try out the new slide, teeter-totter, jungle gym, sandbox, and swings as their mothers watched them from the benches and picnic table. Ever since its inauguration last week, the playground has been alive with laughter and screams from happy kids. From the moment our staff arrives to work in the morning until late afternoon when they leave, the entrance is busy with children running, swinging, sliding, climbing, teetering, and tottering.

La Semana is a weeklong culture day-camp in Minnesota for children in elementary through high school adopted from Latin America and their family members. With the donations from La Semana, Common Hope was able to purchase benches, a picnic table, a teeter-totter, a jungle gym, sand, and paint. JUMBO, a Mexican playground equipment company with a distribution branch located in Guatemala, supported the project by donating the swings and slide, as well as painting and installing the equipment.

Thank you La Semana Camp and JUMBO for your support! The kids at the Family Development Center are grateful to finally have a safe and fun place to play.

    Hi! love the playground.
Do you know of anyone that makes playground equipment, metal, in Antigua or close to Escuintla. I want to furbish an area near one of the Escuintla garbage dumps but cannot find anyone who makes it.
    Thanks…

Time and Talents for Children is also looking to purchase playground equipment in Guatemala. We will be operating out of Pana and could get the equipment in Guatemala City or elsewhere — within reason.

      Hi Jodyn,

This post is from quite a few years ago. While I could pass on your need to the proper contact within our organization, I don’t believe that we would be best suited to help you locate playground equipment.

      Thank you,
