Giving thanks in Guatemala

We had our Thanksgiving lunch yesterday here at Common Hope in Antigua. About 20 people joined in, a mix of employees, volunteers, friends, a couple of kids, and one dog. The group included people from the US, Canada, Scotland, Belgium, Mexico, and Guatemala. Jeff Barnes, Director of Strategic Planning, did most of the cooking—two big turkeys, stuffing, mashed potatoes, and gravy. Other people brought sweet potatoes, green bean casserole, salad, cranberries, bread, and dessert—pumpkin pie, pumpkin cheesecake, and pecan pie.

For a few people, it was their first Thanksgiving celebration. Originally from Scotland, our short-term volunteer coordinator was one of the first-timers, and she was obviously a fan—she suggested we do it again in June to break up the year!

We hope you all had a lovely Thanksgiving with your own friends and family. We are grateful for all you do for children and families in Guatemala!
