Beautiful alfombra built by our staff in annual tradition

In what is becoming an annual tradition, Common Hope staff created a beautiful alfombra, or carpet, outside our Antigua site for a Lenten procession that passed by on Sunday. The Lenten season began last week, which means that there are processions every weekend from now until Semana Santa.

This is the fifth consecutive year that Common Hope staff has made an alfombra for the processions, and they did a beautiful job. It seems every year the carpets get more elaborate and stunning. About a dozen staff members participated, starting with preparing all their materials at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday night. Then at 4:30 a.m. until 10:00 a.m. they went outside and worked on the alfombra. The procession passed at 12:30 p.m., sweeping away their artwork, as is the custom. Check out the photos below. You can see the progression of the alfombra from start to finish and get a sense of their methodical, intricate process.

My brother Dr. Sridhar Vasudeven was part of the Rotary team in Gautemala in Feb. 2014. When will the pictures from that trip be posted on your website.

    Thanks,

    Raj
