Volunteers play a valuable role in aiding staff in Guatemala

This year, Common Hope | Familias de Esperanza was very fortunate to have had many spectacular short-term volunteers in Guatemala. Volunteers play a valuable role in the work that we do, aiding our staff in providing high quality services to the children and families supported by Common Hope.

Our dedicated volunteers this year helped in construction and maintenance, translated sponsorship letters, volunteered in our homework clubs and computer labs, assisted the health care program, helped lead the Loving Parenting and Early Reading classes, and dedicated their Saturdays to facilitating youth group program activities.

Holly, who volunteered for two months in our daycare center said that she most enjoyed forming relationships with the kids and the teachers. “While I only spoke a little Spanish, the teachers were very gracious towards me. They welcomed me with open arms and the children learned to trust me. Every day I was greeted with hugs and loud hellos,” commented Holly.

Brooke who spent eight weeks volunteering in our health and education programs has a message for future volunteers,

“Be ready for a warm hug and kiss on the cheek from everyone you meet. Your presence here will be appreciated and you will leave with a new perspective on what is important in life.”

Thank you to all of our 2016 volunteers for the support you have brought to Common Hope this year! We greatly appreciate all the time, energy, dedication, and passion you gifted us with.
