How did you come to volunteer at Common Hope?
I came back to Antigua after 3 months of volunteering in San Juan Comalapa and I spent another month at a Spanish school whose manager told me about Common Hope. So, I applied to volunteer half days and got to know a great organization.
What was your first impression of Common Hope?
The atmosphere around the foundation is friendly and loving, people are outgoing and the organization is so well structured and organized!
What do you want people back home to know about your experience here?
Having seen poverty and having talked to Guatemalans about life, happiness, and luck changed my perspective on a lot of things and I am really grateful for that. Guatemala has broadened my horizon I wouldn’t want to miss that.
What is a new skill you have learned through living in Guatemala?
For the first time in my life I have been going with the flow and not planning everything. I followed my heart, stepped out of my comfort zone and it made me grow. Guatemala made me trust in my decision-making.
What are your hopes for 2017?
As a gearwheel in the machine of Common Hope I am happy to be part of a movement that tries to make the world a better place. I hope the organization’s word will spread more and more and that we can reach a lot of families. For everyone else I hope they find happiness.
