A Meaningful Way To Give Hope

Put your DAF to work in Guatemala

Keep a student in school, all the way to graduation

For a child in Guatemala, reaching graduation takes more than school supplies. Health challenges, unsafe housing, and family hardship can interrupt an education—and limit the opportunities that follow.

Through a donor-advised fund (DAF) grant to Common Hope, you can help children stay in school by supporting their education and addressing the health, housing, and family challenges that can stand in the way of graduation.

Put those funds into action today: $1,188 keeps a student in school for a full year. Help a child keep learning, move toward graduation, and build a future with more possibilities.

What is a DAF?

A donor-advised fund (DAF) is a charitable giving account managed by a sponsoring charitable organization, such as a community foundation or the charitable arm of a financial institution. You can contribute cash, stock, or other eligible assets and may qualify for a charitable tax deduction, subject to applicable tax rules.

Then, when you’re ready, you can recommend grants to eligible nonprofits like Common Hope—helping create opportunities for students and families in Guatemala through education, health care, housing, and family development.

Why Give Through a DAF?

Giving through your DAF is simple, tax-smart, and flexible. If you contributed appreciated stock instead of cash, you may avoid capital gains tax altogether while still claiming a deduction. And because you've already set the funds aside, recommending a grant to Common Hope takes just a few minutes — no new paperwork, no new deduction to track.

What is DAF Day?

On October 8, we celebrate DAF Day—a nationwide giving day that brings people with donor-advised funds together to support the causes they care about. It’s a moment to turn funds set aside for good into meaningful action.

But giving hope doesn’t have to wait: you can recommend a DAF grant to Common Hope any day of the year.

Giving through your DAF is easy.

Follow these four simple steps to give hope:

Log in to your DAF sponsor's portal (Fidelity Charitable, Schwab Charitable, National Christian Foundation, your local community foundation, etc.)

Step 1

Search for "Common Hope" or use our EIN: 41-1560297.

Address: 1410 Energy Park Drive Suite 4, St. Paul, MN 55108.

Step 2

Enter the amount you'd like to give and select whether you'd like your grant to be one-time or recurring.

Step 3

Choose unrestricted to support Common Hope's greatest needs, or designate your gift to a specific program such as education, health, housing or family development. Please share  your name and contact info with Common Hope. We'd love to thank you personally!

What Are The Benefits of Giving Through a DAF?

1. Immediate tax deduction

You already took your deduction when you funded your DAF, so now just choose where it goes.

2. Avoid capital gains tax

Donating appreciated stock directly to your DAF typically avoids capital gains tax while allowing a deduction for its full fair-market value.

3. Potential tax-free growth.

Your DAF funds can grow tax-free, making more available for grants while you choose which charities to support.

4. Simplify your giving.

One contribution and one tax receipt let you support multiple causes over time, without separate tax paperwork for each grant.
