The social workers behind our Family Development program

Behind every student who graduates from Common Hope, there is a family filled with dreams. And behind each family, there is one of our social workers who walked the journey with them.
At Common Hope | Familias de Esperanza, we have over a hundred professionals, each bringing unique skills, perspectives, and expertise. Today, we want to share a little bit about the social workers within our Family Development Program.
We believe that a child's success in school is not achieved alone, it is rooted in their family. In Guatemala, however, many families face poverty, instability, and other challenging conditions that impact their children's performance in school.

That’s why our Family Development Program exists: to acknowledge and respond to the full picture of what families are navigating. The program begins with our Affiliations team, which identifies and welcomes families ready to commit to a process to improve their lives through education, health, housing, and family development initiatives. From there, each family is introduced to a social worker who becomes their guide, point of contact, and consistent support throughout the journey.
What makes Common Hope's social work team unique is their teamwork. When a family needs something that falls outside one social worker's expertise, the team steps in. Neither the families nor the social workers are alone! This collaborative approach means families receive thoughtful and coordinated support tailored to what they need, whether that is a parenting program, crisis assistance, or simply someone to help them think through what comes next.
Our team of social workers builds genuine relationships with each and every one of the families they are assigned to. They create personalized development plans, maintain consistent follow-up, and provide constant support so families feel seen, valued, and supported. Our social workers also encourage families to look forward, helping them anticipate needs, identify opportunities, and inspire them to dream big.

Every conversation, every home visit, and every coordinated effort points toward a common goal: the educational success of the next generation! Because when a student graduates, it isn't just an individual achievement. It's a turning point for a family and a step toward a different Guatemala. That's what drives our social workers team!
To celebrate our 40th anniversary, we are raising $100,000 for the Family Development Program. To participate, click here or use the form below.
